# Repeating visits

> Set a visit to repeat daily, weekly, monthly or on your own pattern, and change, cancel or delete one visit or the rest of the series.

A repeating visit is a series: Elate puts every visit in the pattern on the schedule for you, so you do not have to create each one.

**Who can do this:** anyone whose role includes **Edit schedule**. By default that is Organisation Owners, Service Provider Admins, Care Managers and Care Coordinators. Your organisation can change this in **Settings > Permissions**.

<Note>This is not included in Elate Free.</Note>

On Elate Free, saving a repeating visit opens **Repeating visits need a subscription**. One-off visits still work within the month's allowance. See [Plans and pricing](/billing/pricing).

Your organisation may use different words for some things, such as "Service users" instead of "Support recipients". Elate shows your organisation's words everywhere, so follow what you see.

## Set a visit to repeat

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a visit">
    Select **Create visit** and fill in the first two steps as usual. See [Creating and editing visits](/schedule/creating-and-editing-visits).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the first visit's time">
    In **When and who**, set **When** to the date and time of the first visit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose how it repeats">
    Open **Repeats** and pick a pattern. The choices follow the date you set, for example:

    * **Daily**
    * **Weekly on Monday**
    * **Monthly on the first Monday**
    * **Annually on 6 October**
    * **Every weekday (Monday to Friday)**
    * **Custom…** for anything else (see below)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Choose the **Team member** and select **Create repeating visits**. Elate confirms with a summary of the pattern.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The ready-made patterns never end. Use **Custom…** if the series should stop.

## Make a custom pattern

**Custom…** opens **Custom recurrence**:

* **Repeat every**: a number from 1 to 99, and **day**, **week**, **month** or **year**.
* **Repeat on**: for weekly patterns, tick the days of the week.
* For monthly patterns, choose **Monthly on day** (the same date each month) or **Monthly on the** (for example the second Tuesday).
* **Ends**: **Never**, **On** a date, or **After** a number of occurrences (up to 730).

Select **Done**. Your pattern then appears in **Repeats** as a sentence, for example "Every 2 weeks on Monday and Friday".

## How the series keeps going

Elate puts about 90 days of visits on the schedule when you create the series, then keeps adding more automatically, so a series that never ends always has visits ahead. Cancelling or missing one visit does not stop the series.

Every visit in a series can still be opened, checked in to and changed on its own. The visit sheet shows the pattern under **Repeats**.

## Change a series

Open any visit in the series and select **Edit visit**. When you select **Save changes**, choose:

| Choice | What changes |
| - | - |
| **This visit** | Only the visit you opened. |
| **This and following visits** | This visit and every later one. |
| **All visits** | Every visit in the series. |

Changing the pattern in **Repeats** applies to **This and following visits** only. Moving the visit to another date offers **This visit** or **This and following visits**.

The same three choices appear when you change the checklist on a repeating visit from the **Tasks** tab with **Save checklist**.

## Cancel or delete part of a series

When you cancel or delete a repeating visit, you choose **This visit** or **This and following visits**. There is no option for all visits, so visits that already happened are left alone. Cancelling with **This and following visits** ends the series from that visit. See [Cancelling, restoring and deleting visits](/schedule/cancelling-and-deleting-visits).
