Settings > Notifications holds the defaults for everyone in your organisation: which notifications go out, on which channels, and when. Who can do this: Organisation Owners and Service Provider Admins. The Notifications tab in Settings is only shown to these two roles.
Your organisation may use different words for some things, such as “Service users” instead of “Support recipients”. Elate shows your organisation’s words everywhere, so follow what you see.

How organisation defaults and personal choices fit together

  • What you set here is the default for everyone the notification is for.
  • Each person can change any notification for themselves, on their Account page on the web or in Notifications in the Elate Care app. See Your notifications.
  • A change here only moves the people who have not made their own choice for that notification.
  • The All notifications switch is the exception. Turned off, it stops every notification for everyone, whatever they chose, apart from a person’s request to approve their own new device in Chat.

Open the settings

1

Open Settings

Select Settings in the sidebar.
2

Choose Notifications

Select the Notifications tab.
Changes save as you make them. You see Saved. at the bottom when a change has gone through.

All notifications

The All notifications switch at the top turns every notification off or on for the whole organisation. Off stops every channel, safety notifications included, and cancels anything already waiting to be sent. People still see the app as it stands. While it is off, every switch below shows as off and cannot be changed. Nothing is overwritten: when you turn notifications on again, each switch comes back as it was. The one row that keeps its switches is A new device asking for your chats, which is still sent so that people can approve their own new phone or browser.

Choose what is sent

Notifications are grouped under Safety and clinical, always immediate, Scheduling, the horizon applies, Workforce and records, and Messages and summaries. Each one has switches for In-app, Push and Email. A switch that is greyed out is a channel that notification cannot use. For example, messages are never sent by email. Each notification that can be emailed says, beside its name, how its email is timed:
  • “Email is sent at once.” sends the email straight away.
  • “Email waits for the digest.” collects the email into the next digest.
Some notifications are off until you switch them on, such as Arrival not confirmed.

When digests go out

Under When digests go out, set the Morning and Afternoon times. They start at 08:30 and 16:30. Everything on digest timing is collected and sent together at these times. Week ahead sent at sets when the Your week ahead notification goes out, 17:00 to start with. Times are local to your organisation, and an empty digest is never sent.

How far ahead a change reaches someone

Rotas change often, so Elate only sends changes a person can still act on.
  • Inside 24 hours, a change is sent immediately on every channel the person has on.
  • Inside the horizon, it is sent and its email waits for the next digest.
  • Beyond the horizon, nothing is sent. The weekly summary picks it up instead.
  • Changes to a visit that has already started are never sent.

Quiet hours

Set From and Until under Quiet hours. They start at 19:00 and 07:00. Email and push wait until the window ends. The bell in the app is never held back. Everything waits, safety notifications included. The exceptions are a medication reminder somebody set for themselves, which arrives when the dose is due, and a person’s request to approve their own new device in Chat. A person can set their own window on their profile.

Automatic safeguarding alerts

Under Automatic safeguarding alerts, tick the named staff who should be emailed about safeguarding concerns, then select Save recipients. Only active staff who hold safeguarding access and have an email address are listed. Elate checks their access again before each email is sent. See Incidents and safeguarding.
